Seth Putnam the singer for Anal Cunt, died of a heart attack this weekend.
Yes, it’s true. Seth Putnam, one of the most infamous musicians that extreme metal has ever seen, the grindcore GG Allin, has passed away due to a heart attack.
I handled all the promotion for Anal Cunt’s last album, Fuckin’ A, and Seth was always happy to oblige any request I sent his way. The band had been working on a new album before his passing, so chances are his musical career’s epitaph has yet to be inscribed.
I want to remind everyone that no matter how outrageous and controversial his musical career has been, Seth was still a human being with friends and family that loved him. I’m hoping that the internet will remember that. This is a very sad and trying time for those that knew him, and the last thing they need to see is an outpouring of messageboard hate. The man lived and died by his own rules; if anything, respect him for that.

Times New Viking are a band from Columbus, OH. This is their second video from their latest album. They have been active since 2005 and recently released their 5th Full-length “Dancer Equired!” on Merge. Their first albums are basically the lowest-fi you can get before its just static but there are still solid songs if you can make it past the hiss and buzz that comes with the production. Black Lips are a band from Atlanta, GA. They have been a band since 1999 but didn’t put out their first release until 2003 on Bomp!. They’re songs are a mixture of punk rock and the oldies. Ali Koehler is the drummer for Best Coast. She joined the band in mid 2010 after departing from Vivian Girls. She replaced Frankie Rose in Vivian Girls and stayed with them for about 2 years. She is a very sweet girl and everyone loves her. She has a unique style and most guys think she is a babe. She is one of my favorite drummers out right now. She has a twitter. @hernameisali

Neon Indian is a band from Denton, TX. Which is a city between the border of Oklahoma and Dallas, TX. It features Alan Palomo who was born in Mexico. Their (his) first album “Psychic Chasms” got really buzzy because of the song “Deadbeat Summer” which was sorta like that rad song “Genius of Love” being performed by an indie band. They blew up after Carles and HRO coined the term “chillwave” and placed them in the chillwave umbrella with Washed Out and Toro Y Moi. His music is very chill indeed. The songs vary from funk/soul/indie/lo-fi but all seem to have the same feel. Their albums are easy to listen to with groups of people during a daytime BBQ or driving long distances. Alan is an aloof, disconnected guy with a quirky sense of humor and an adorable smile. Most everyone wants to fuck him. He is mexican-american and “chill”.

Lower Dens had to cancel shows but are playing some shows still.
Lower Dens had to cancel some shows after their guitarist Will Adams bailed. They started back up on the 12th and are hitting Texas for a couple before heading back towards home for the remainder of the tour.

Jana Hunter is the singer for Lower Dens. They are a pyschedelic-folk band from Baltimore. She is originally from Texas but now lives in Baltimore. Sometimes, she still plays solo shows but usually performs with Lower Dens. Her stats are 32/F.

Lower Dens are a band from Baltimore. They feature Jana Hunter who used to release stuff as a solo artist on Devendra Banhart (and Andy Cabic of Vetiver)’s label Gnomonsong. Now that she has 3 dudes to back her up, shes released a 7” on Gnomonsong as well as a few demos on their own. They have long songs that tend to be slow to moderate in tempo. Some of their songs seem boring at first, but after a few listens they get stuck in your head. The tone of the music is typically somber/confused/chill. This video in particular is cool because they are playing live on a deck with small amps.
*Side-Note - Jana is wearing giant sunglasses.

Danny Bangston plays bass in Pangea who are from Newhall, CA which is near Cal-Arts. Some people think Cal-Arts is a cult. Danny is not in a cult. Danny went to Cal-Arts but just graduated. He actually lives in Highland Park. Highland Park is an area/city/sect of LA. Danny is a very nice man with a warm heart and sexy mustache. Pangea is so catchy it hurts and are getting lots of buzz.

Pangea is a four-piece band from Newhall, CA which is sort of LA but not really. They write “lo-fi” pop but really its just rehashed 50’s surf stuff in contemporary packing. Their songs are infectious and silly. The singer William Keegan has a very distinctive voice that is brash and almost abrasive but somehow easy to fall in love with. I hate when they release new stuff because it ends up being the only I want to listen to for 6 months. Tonyandgabe.com put this video together recently.
